UNS IDIOMAS - RETRO 2010

Do you remember last year? In June, we had our first big Field Class at Manauara Shopping Mall! We had many students, and as it was REALLY FUNNY! The students and the teachers were talking ONLY IN ENGLISH around the Mall's Food Court. We played the famous '5 MINUTE-DATE', an activity where the students had 5 minutes to get information from the people they were talking to, and in the next 5 minutes they were supposed to switch! and talk to someone else from the circle. It was an unforgettable afternoon because ever since, we never stopped having fun classes at unexpected places!

Soon we'll be posting new events and we're already planning on something HUGE for the next two months... GET READY!

UNS MANAUS PARQUE CONSULTANCY

As you all might know, UNS Idiomas is a school with branches all over Brazil! We have more than 30 UNS Schools over Rio de Janeiro, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Paraná, Pernambuco, Amazonas, Roraima and São Paulo, where the Franchise HQ is located. And once we have a Franchise, we must stablish the same good quality in all of the different regions of the Country.
During this Month, Patrícia Danza (our UNS Consultant) came by to check the four UNS branches we have in Manaus - Cidade Nova, Adrianópolis, Centro and Parque das Laranjeiras. We had lots of fun with pedagogical trainings and meetings in order to improve our services, so that our students feel really involved in the process of learning English, which is an essential tool for conquering a better future.

Thanks Patrícia! You'll always be welcome in our sunny-hot-humid land!

MAY OUTSTANDING STUDENT

There are many types of students, but from those, the ones who stand in front of the others are the ones who never quit what they’ve started – no matter if it’s easy of very difficult. The student Manoel Pinto Serqueira is one of these who doesn’t care if it’s not easy or the process of acquiring a new language takes too long – he is here to LEARN. From Lesson 1, he told his teacher a story about travelling abroad (on business) with almost nothing in his vocabulary package, only a few words and the classic “I DON’T SPEAK ENGLISH”. The body language helped him somehow, but that was surely not enough for a fair communication. After some classes, Manoel started demanding the teacher not to speak any word in Portuguese, so that could force himself to understand the message through the situation being exposed.

He is studying SURVIVAL book, and his wife, Vera Serqueira (also a student in the same group) says he doesn’t have any time during the day to practice his English, so he wakes up earlier than everybody in his house and takes a 30-minutes look at the book, and the lesson to be explained on the next class.

By the end of May, he will have seen 11 of the 12 units Survival has, and in the purpose of seeing the native speakers pronunciation, daily routine, vocabulary used and manners, he decided to travel to New York – with Vera Serqueira along. This opportunity will show them the need of understanding English, and mostly ‘traumatize’ them in order to study harder for having the same fluency and naturality.

Manoel Serqueira is the head of the family, so he is used to always giving a good example for his children and relatives (once his wife, two children and an old friend are in the same classroom at UNS Manaus Parque). He constantly pushes them harder when it comes to trying to speak, because when he first watched a class, he claimed he couldn’t speak a word in English, and now he is actually outstanding from any other student because of his self improvement and power of will.

It doesn’t matter your education standards, age, gender or stratum. If you understand how English can be useful to your life, you will try your hardest and face the difficulties in order to conquering your goals.

Field Class at ROMA Supermarket

Once again, the UNS Students get involved with the English in their routine. The teacher André Barbosa took his Monday and Wednesdays students to learn and practice the food vocabulary. Besides knowing the names of the fruits, grains, vegetables, meat, cereal and much more, the students could see how we can look for things at a Supermarket in the US. It was a SUPER FUN afternoon with our May Outstanding Student and his family (also UNS Students)! On the way back to the school, there was no way we couldn't speak portuguese! Even the jokes were made in English!

That's how we do it at UNS Idiomas! Showing the REAL SITUATIONS in which students can see themselves involved and learning what is really useful for them in an UNFORGETTABLE way!

Secret Bunny - Teacher Karla's Group

The teacher Karla Medeiros is always very dynamic, and very lovely to her students, organized a Secret Bunny in order to make this Easter UNFORGETTABLE.
She handed them a chart with Easter Vocabulary and some explaination about the holiday, so the student whose questions were answered correctly, would be on the run to winning a Chocolate Box. Besides that, her students programmed a Secret Bunny, so that they could practice the Verb BE making statements to describe the one they had picked on the week before the raffle. The teacher wrote some adjectives on the board and the students used them to give characteristics!

Being fun and effective! That's how we are ate UNS Idiomas!

Mother`s Day at UNS Manaus Parque

On the last 14th, the UNS Idiomas Parque das Laranjeiras staff produced a raffle for Mother's day! During the week before, we had our students write names of people they know, that might be interested in studying English. The marketing department would be responsible for contacting the indicated people, and if they became UNS students, the person who recommended would win the wonderful basket full of goodies for Mother's Day celebration!

Who is going to get these?

Besides the raffle on names of possible students, we also asked our students to write or say out loud or sing, anyway they could THE LOVE they feel for their mothers. What would they say if they could look at them at that very moment?

...and the winner is GASPAR GONÇALVES, a Saturdays student!

And during the week, the winner was Christine Freitas, from Tuesdays and Wednesdays! She was very excited when she got the basket!

This is one of the ways we keep our students close to us! It's very important that everyone participates the activities, raffles, field classes and all the dynimics we offer the students.
